Karen Duncan is the founder of Apple Pilates. Karen was first introduced to Pilates in the mid-90's, then completed a degree in Occupational Therapy at the University of Alberta in 2003. She went on to work in the rehabilitation field, developing programs for injured workers, assisting in their safe return to work, as well as completing ergonomic assessments, before becoming a certified Stott Pilates Instructor in 2008. Karen furthered her training by completing the Reformer and Stability Chair training, as well as the Zenga Instructor foundation course, and has been teaching Pilates ever since.

Additionally, Karen worked as a physiotherapy assistant, working directly with ICBC and WCB clients, applying the benefits of Pilates to the rehabilitation process, ensuring a safe and effective return to work and pleasure. Her background in Occupational Therapy provides her with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the biomechanics of the body and how it relates to functional movement. Karen continues to expand her knowledge through collaboration with physiotherapists, massage therapists and ongoing education, in order to provide her clients with the most up-to-date informations, and a varied exercise repertoire.

When Karen is not teaching, she loves spending time with her daughter, skiing, biking, and generally enjoying the simple things in life. She has become an avid road cyclist since moving to Victoria, where she is a member of the Wheelers and Triple Shot cycling clubs.

We not only help build strong healthy bodies, but in doing so we also build beautiful life-long friendships, contributing to a stronger healthier community. Our goal is to help you gain a better understanding of your body, providing you with the knowledge and understanding to make “real” changes to your overall health and wellness. We are able to work with almost anyone, taking into account a client's medical conditions, injuries and interests, to reach their goals. We will work along side your healthcare practitioner to address specific needs and concerns to help you reach improved health and wellness.
